Hello President!
We were looking for a Less Active single member named Anthony that the ward council was worried about. As part of our “rescue” attempts, we left 4 or 5sticky notes on his front door over the course of several weeks until we finally met him. They were just kind notes to say hello and that we were thinking about him and wanting to visit with him. He finally told us his story. He had been at the top of the world. He had a great job, a girl friend, everything he thought he needed to be happy. Then it all slipped through his fingers. He now had a terrible part-time job, no friends, and was barely scraping along to survive. He was confused. He wondered why God could allow so many bad things to happen to him. He could not understand why he had fallen so far. These questions lead him first depression and then to the Capital Beltway, Highway 495, with a long high bridge. He stood there, on the edge of the bridge looking at the busy traffic below, contemplating why, why! He was to the edge of his faith and the edge of the bridge. He told us that he looked down at the cars speeding and imagined how beautiful it would be to just let them take all the pain away. He thought for a while about jumping, but then he remembered something. It was something very small. He remembered the little sticky notes the missionaries had left on his front door. Hope entered his heart once again. He leapt back on to solid ground and headed straight for home. He then immediately called us to come over to visit him. That little act of writing notes, insignificant as it may have seemed, continued in diligence over time, and saved a brothers life. He knew someone cared about him. Our actions DO matter! They DO make a difference! John ended up returning to church, and his father also received many blessings as he also returned to church. I know that everything we do out of love makes a difference, great or small. No effort is wasted. I'm very grateful to the Lord for that knowledge. I LOVE THIS WORK! How great it is to be involved full time in the work and glory of God.
Merrily Marching Onward,
Elder Eric Sackett
