A memorial to the 1st Army Division. This statue sits infront of the Eisenhower building and you cannot go up to it. But it is grand.
Next we visited the OCTAGON HOUSE. I have been wanting to see this home. It is the oldest private home in DC. It now houses offices of the Architecture AIA . But at one time the Tayloe family lived here. They had 15 children and 16 servants. The home is actually a hexagon0 has 5 sides, plus the curved porch. But the round round in the front had eight sides and the home came to known as the Octogan because of that.
Pres Madison lived here after the White House burned by the British.
And the Treaty of Ghent ending the war of 1812 was signed here. They have the desk on display where it was signed. So much history here.
