STRIVING FOR THE DC STANDARD

Each mission can set a Standard for which the missionaries can strive. This consists of reaching different goals in a week They include 80% lessons with a member, 80% invitations to baptism at lessons, 1 investigator at Sacrament Meeting, 20 lessons given, and finding 3 new investigators.
This is a really high standard and difficult to reach. We didn't have a lot missionaries reaching standard weekly. And so the Zone Leaders came up with a plan at Zone leader Council. Some incentive to reach the standard. They got very excited about this. A professional basketball game at the Verizon Center if they reached Standard 3 times during the 6 week transfer cycle.
A performance at the Kennedy Center if they reached Standard 2 times and dinner and a movie at the Albright if they achieved Standard once during the transfer. They announced this plan at District meetings the first week of the transfer.
We were amazed. They worked and worked and worked. And they got so excited as they started to reach standard and see all the blessings and investigators that resulted from the extra efforts. The excitement came not from the incentives that they had been offered, but from the great spiritual and mission blessings they were reaching. We found 248 new investigators in one week. It was so exciting.

REACHING STANDARD - THREE WEEKS

On Saturday, Feb 12, 2011 we took 80, yes that is 40 companionships to the Verizon Center to see the Wizards play the Spurs. A once in a mission experience. They all rode the metro to the center and had a fun and exciting evening. I didn't get pictures of everyone, but tried to catch a few pics. (each missionary paid for their own ticket which we found online for $8.00) and as you can imagine 8 dollar seats are close to the ceiling. But it didn't matter, it was just the thrill of going and accomplishing their goals.
