YORKTOWN- APRIL 8,2011

We also visited Yorktown. This is the site of the Battle of Yorktown from the the Revolutionary War. This battle was very important as it was the turning point for the north as they won this battle after days of fighting. Both sides had built embankments all over the area and were able to hide behind these for days. This town sits on the James River. This river is just enormous. Had no idea these rivers were so wide and deep. The little town on the river is a beautiful little tourist beach town. We stayed in a cute little hotel on the beach. We could hear the sounds of the water and see the sand and water. It felt like we were in California. Very fun. We visited the incredible visitor's center here. It has been built to show what the battle field was like and teach visitors all about this battle and it's importance to the outcome.

Officer's tent

The kitchen. Very ingenious

The doctors tent. Gruesome. Amazing anyone survived.
6 soldiers slept in one of these tents

Soldiers who showed us the rifles and other arms and how they worked.

A bunker built by the soldiers.
