THE SACKLER FREER GALLERIES

WOW! Another treasure trove here in DC.
This is 2 art museums in one: The Sackler and Freer Galleries.
I was mezmorized.  These galleries contain artifacts and paintings from
the Asian-Chinese and Persian-Iran,Iraq areas and some of them date from before Christ.
The workmanship was astounding and beautiful.

There are 17 (i think) Smithsonian museums.  We have tried to visit each of them
during our time here.
This was a busy and tiring day
We started at the mission office at 9:00 until 1:30.
Left for DC for a 2:30 tour of the Treasury Dept, Bureau of Engraving.
This is a short 45 minute tour.
At 3:30 we went around the block to the Sackler and Freer Galleries
and visited these from 4-5:30.
Walked back to the car, past the Tidal Basin and
saw the most beautiful views of the Jefferson Memorial.
It was a fast afternoon.
We were home and back to Missionary work for the evening.
Such busy days and great memories.

The entrance to the Sackler Museum.
This museum is 4 floors.  The other 3 are underground
A beautiful carved artwork- Monkey chain.
With writing in many languages connected as a chain.

Story of the benefactor- Mr Sackler- the father of mental medicine.
He made the connection between hormone imbalance and mental conditions
