MORE SIGHTSEEING IN DC

SO FUN TO HAVE FRIENDS COME AND VISIT. Dave and Ellen came on Feb 17 and stayed for 10 days in the mission home. They rented a car and so they went touring by themselves most of the time, but I managed a few days with them.

In the missionhome.
With the Wally Johnson Family. The neatest thing happened. Ellen is really into Geneology.
She was in contact with this man, Wally Johnson, through some searching for geneology info.
When she arrived here and they called each other, surprize-- Wally is in our mission and a wonderful Ward Mission Leader in one of our wards. And when Ellen told him they were staying at our home, what a surprize. So Ellen invited them over one evening to meet and see some geneology things. (Mark and I had a meeting) Ellen was so excited to meet them and get together.

WE VISITED THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL

The walls have large inscriptions of famous speeches that Lincoln gave. This is the Gettysburg
I love the saying over his head.
The view from inside the Lincoln

The ceiling
This picture is so great. I put it to show how enormous the place is.

On the steps of the Lincoln is where Martin Luther King gave his "I have a Dream" speech. It was on this spot

VIETNAM MEMORIAL
This was exciting because we found 2 names of people that were related to Ellen

Vietnam Memorial
A Foutz relative
A second relative
Kenneth Foutz

THE KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL

This memorial is really eerie. These statue are larger than life size and the expressions on the faces of the soldiers show the fear and anxiety that they must have been experiencing.

PROFOUND

INSCRIBED ON THE GROUND IN FRONT OF THE MEMORIAL

FACES

This wall has copies of actual pictures from the Korean war.

A view across the Tidal Basin- from the Roosevelt Memorial to the Washington

THE ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL
Seated here in his wheelchair. He was able to keep this from the public because the media showed so much more respect for peoples rights. Can you imagine keeping this kind of information personal in todays media circus.
Soup lines during the depression.
Roosevelt said many famous things. He had a whole group of speech writers and were great.

Roosevelt and his dog.
Roosevelts funeral
Mrs. Roosevelt

This pogada was a gift from Japan to America. It is on the walkway around the tidal basin

This sidewalk goes all the way around the tidal basin and it is beautiful
These incredible trees in the park.

THE MARTIN LUTHER KING MEMORIAL

This memorial is also along the tidal basin. Very inspirational. The statue appears to be cut out of the mountain of stone.

THE JEFFERSON MEMORIAL

WOW. Sounds like he was a member

THE BOTANICAL GARDENS

While Ellen and Dave were on a Capital tour, I visited the Botanical Gardens. There was a special orchid show going on.

Home?
They had a whole section with these miniture trees. Amazing. This tree is 65 years old.
